Coltosol F is a moisture-curing, radio-opaque, white temporary filling material designed for short-term dental applications, lasting 1–2 weeks. It is a zinc oxide/zinc sulphate-based cement used for temporary fillings in Class I and II cavities and for temporary sealing in endodontic procedures.

Coltosol F hardens by absorbing moisture, providing a dense, secure marginal seal. However, care should be taken with thin enamel margins, as expansion during hardening may cause fractures.

It is not recommended for cavities extending under the gingiva or for long-term use in vital teeth. While generally safe, dehydration in cavities of vital teeth can cause temporary discomfort, so keeping the area moist before application is important.

  • Application: Using a spatula or instrument, take the required amount of Coltosol F directly from the jar.
    • Roll the material into a small ball between your fingers and press it into the prepared cavity.
    • Condense Coltosol F into the cavity using a condenser, ensuring it adapts properly to the cavity walls.
    • Remove any occlusal contact points with a scaler to avoid interference with the bite.
    • For very deep cavities, avoid filling to the base to make removal easier later.
  • Hardening Process: Coltosol F begins to harden within 20–30 minutes through moisture absorption (e.g., saliva).
    • The filling can be subjected to normal chewing pressure after 2–3 hours.
    • To speed up the setting process, knead the material with wet gloves before application.
  • Removal: Coltosol F can be removed in large pieces using a drill or a scaler.
    • Rinse the cavity thoroughly with a water spray to remove any remaining residue.
